The vision was to unite Curtin University of Technology with key state and federal agencies, and industry involved in research and education for the minerals, energy and chemistry sectors, and to attract the best national and international researchers and teachers to Perth.
This vibrant environment, with more than 200 professional scientists, engineers and support staff, would create the perfect foundation for high-impact and industry-relevant research, and produce world-class graduates for the resources and chemistry sectors.
The Curtin Resources and Chemistry Precinct is a $116 million investment primarily funded by Curtin, with financial contributions from BHP Billiton and the Australian Federal Government.
The Precinct plan, developed in September 2004, linked with the Western Australian Government’s decision to relocate ChemCentre from its East Perth site, and CSIRO’s decision to expand its Waterford facilities. Construction of the main building, designed by Woods Bagot and built by BGC, started in January 2007 and was completed in mid-2009.
